Surakarta — Students of the Electrical Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), have once again achieved an outstanding accomplishment at the national level through the Bengawan UV team. At the 2026 Indonesian Boat Contest (Kontes Kapal Indonesia/KKI), organized by the Bureau of Community Services and Cooperation (BELMAWA) of the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology (DIKTI) from September 14–19, 2026, in Bengkalis, Riau, the Bengawan UV team secured 3rd Place in the Fuel Engine Remote Control category.

In this competition, Bengawan UV presented a vehicle named Oceanos Al-Haydar Nusantara 10, a remote-controlled boat designed with a focus on hull durability and reliable performance on the competition course. The boat is powered by a 2-stroke Zenoah 32CC engine, selected to deliver optimal power and responsiveness while operating on the competition course.

The boat’s hull design was developed by taking into account stability and resistance to dynamic water conditions, while the propulsion system was designed to support the endurance mission emphasized in the 2026 Indonesian Boat Contest and to operate consistently throughout the various stages of the competition. The combination of structural strength and engine reliability served as the primary foundation for the performance of Oceanos Al-Haydar Nusantara 10 at KKI 2026.

This vehicle was not the result of an instant process. The Bengawan UV team underwent approximately six months of research and development, beginning with the initial design stage, simulations and technical calculations, hull construction, integration of the engine and remote-control systems, and a series of field tests to ensure that the boat was ready for competition.

This process required collaboration across multiple areas of expertise among the team members, ranging from mechanical design calculations and the selection and adjustment of the propulsion system to testing the material’s resistance to operational pressure in water. Each stage was carried out through a careful research-based approach, in line with the scientific spirit upheld by the Electrical Engineering Study Program at UNS, which encourages its students not only to understand theory but also to implement it in real-world, tested works.

This achievement is part of the spirit of “Jaya di Laut dan Udara”, or “Triumph on the Seas and in the Air,” embraced by the Bengawan UV team. The motto reflects the team’s aspiration to achieve excellence in both maritime vehicles and unmanned aerial vehicles. This spirit is in line with the team’s overarching motto, Aksatriya Nalendra Madyantara, which serves as the foundation of their values in every research activity, competition, and community service initiative they undertake.

This philosophy is not merely a slogan, but rather a reflection of the team’s commitment to continuously creating and contributing across various competitive fields, both on the surface of the water and in the air. It represents a tangible contribution from UNS Electrical Engineering students to the development of unmanned vehicle technology in Indonesia.

The achievement at KKI 2026 adds to the long list of accomplishments by UNS Electrical Engineering students in the fields of research and unmanned vehicle technology. This achievement also reaffirms the study program’s commitment to encouraging student innovation at the national level, while providing opportunities for students to continuously develop applied research capabilities that are relevant to industry needs and the technological challenges of the future.

The success of the Bengawan UV team also serves as motivation for other students within the Faculty of Engineering at UNS to become increasingly active in participating in national-scale research and innovation competitions, while further strengthening UNS’s reputation as one of the universities that consistently develops outstanding talent in the field of unmanned vehicle technology.
